Streetball Tour Continues To Entertain Basketball Fans

Basketball fans came out in numbers to watch a local basketball team take on the Hustle Up team of Hot Sauce, A-Money, Total Package, I’ll Be Right Back, JFK, Springs and High Rizer.

The hoops team of Scott, Shane Erickson, Jason Vadnie, Reece Williams, LeRoy Fairbanks, Challenge Johnson, Randy Holthusen, Bamarius Richardson, Brandon Fields and Bill Brown fell 157-89 to Hustle Up.

But the score was more of an afterthought as the two teams put on a one-on-one skills competition in what was at times a comedic and concert-like atmosphere.

Fairbanks was given the nickname “Big Pony” by the MC and was dunked on by High Rizer, an ESPN City Slam dunk champion in the first half.

Slam dunks and alley-oops were a common move for the Streetball players.

Fairbanks brought some moves to the court as well, hitting field goals and showing some fine skills from 3-point range in the final minutes of the game.

For, Vadnie of Fargo, N.D., the chance to go up against Hot Sauce was a special experience.

“It was crazy and a dream come true,” Vadnie said.

Vadnie plays a lot of streetball in Fargo and makes mix tapes with his friends.

He has watched several And 1 Mix Tape Tour tapes – where many of the Hustle Up players gained notoriety — and used them as strategy Tuesday night.

“I’ve seen them play a lot and I thought I knew what they were going to do, but they still were able to get the best of me,” Vadnie said. “But I was able to get them a couple of times.”

Vadnie modeled some of his moves after the players and was quickly dubbed “Mild Sauce” by the MC.

“It’s just great fun to play hoops and interact with the community,” he said. “That’s streetball.”

“That was my first in-game dunk, it felt great,” he said.

Like Vadnie, Scott was familiar with the moves Hot Sauce brought to the court.

He went one-on-one with Hot Sauce several times and held his own.

“You just have to watch his stomach and not the shakes or the streetball moves,” Scott said. “I just didn’t want to get embarrassed or put on the ground out there. It was an awesome out there and a good experience to go out on.”
