A New York Streetball legend, Joe “The Destroyer” Hammond is suing Nike and Footlocker.

Joe Hammond, 61, known on Harlem blacktops in the 1970s as “The Destroyer” for his cocky, skillful basketball moves, filed suit in Manhattan federal court against Nike Inc. and Footlocker Inc. for the unauthorized use of his name on T-shirts, the New York Post reported Sunday.

The shirts read: “Joe The Destroyer Hammon” with a picture of a well-worn basketball hoop. Hammond’s last name is misspelled on the shirts, the Post said.

Hammond’s suit asks for $5 million, the Post reported.

“They put a shirt of mine in Foot Locker with no contract,” said Hammond, who once turned down a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Streetball caught with a streetball legend named Pee Wee Kirkland recently.  Check out the exclusive interview of a basketball legend.

Kirkland talks about his days growing up.  “My family was poor. I used to tell my mom I was selling newspapers, but the money came fast. … At that time, Martin Luther King was preaching about strength of mind and character, but I didn’t get it,” Pee Wee Kirkland said from his home in New York City. “I was out there with the cars and the drugs, the jewelry, the entourage. I was giving out money and making it back over again. I had the gangster style, I was the guy who was carrying two guns. That life is like quicksand. I knew right from wrong, but once you’re in, it’s almost impossible to get out.”

I’m really looking forward to the game and it should truly tell you what kind of season we are planning to have. Tickets will only be $20 and we will donate 10% to a Hurricane Ike foundation,” states Leonard.

The game is to be played on November 15, 2008.
